These are 3D printed PLA pottery ribs, designed for use on the wheel to create consistent, controlled curves when throwing cylinders and shaping forms. Designed and tested through regular studio use by me, a fellow potter, these ribs are intended to be practical, durable tools for everyday throwing.
Each rib features a dual-sided chamfered edge, allowing it to be used comfortably by both left and right handed potters. The straight profile side is intended for smoothing and refining a cylinder before introducing a curve, it also has the chamfered edge. This edge is unique and not all 3d printed ribs have it due to the way they are made. It is ideal for helping to compress the surface and scrape away excess slip which helps to smooth throwing lines and leaves a clean surface.
The profile has been carefully designed to improve how the rib meets the bat at the pot base. This reduces the risk of the rib digging in or catching at the bottom of the form while throwing, or lifting it off the wheel by cutting too far in.

Colour These ribs are printed in a rainbow gradient PLA. Please note: the colour pattern varies with each print batch, so the exact rainbow effect will differ from the photos shown. Images are indicative of the style and finish rather than an exact colour placement. Material
Printed in PLA (polylactic acid), a bioplastic made from renewable plant-based sources such as corn rather than fossil fuels. PLA is biodegradable under specific industrial composting conditions.
